Lesson description

Read complete chapter I with optional English support. Your Spanish, French and Italian may help recognition; Portuguese listening and speaking need their own practice. Choose a smaller subset if this is too dense.

  1. Read complete chapter I

Try one paragraph without translation, then check it. Older spellings are preserved; look at the notes before copying a form into modern writing.

    Read text
  2. Recognize selected vocabulary

Start Portuguese → English. Keep bolso distinct from Spanish bolso. Rate the actual Portuguese recall; familiarity from another language is only a clue.

    Practice flashcards
  3. Find background and completed events

Compare era/estava with encontrei/acabou. Recognize the literary pronouns; do not force them into casual speech.

    Open list
  4. Explain the nickname in your own words

Write or say 3–5 simple Portuguese sentences about why the nickname stuck. Ask your AI for corrections; checking this step does not assess speaking.
