Lesson description

A proposed restart for someone who remembers some spoken Mandarin but few characters. Use pinyin as temporary support; do not treat character difficulty as proof that you cannot understand speech.

  1. Follow a short café exchange with pinyin

Turn on pinyin and word meanings. Understand who wants what and the price. This first supported pass is not a listening test.

    Read text
  2. Say the café words aloud

See the English meaning and say the Mandarin before revealing the answer. Pinyin recall is acceptable at this stage. Your self-rating records recall, not verified tone accuracy.

  3. Practice asking for repetition

Reuse 请说慢一点儿 and 请再说一遍. Choose only unfamiliar items for a later practice list; no fixed repetition timetable is imposed.

  4. Hear and reuse four short phrases

Optional audio pass: use a Mandarin-speaking partner, your connected AI, or an available device voice. Hear four café phrases without looking, state the meaning, then answer aloud. No recorded audio has been generated for these readings; device speech is a rough aid, not a pronunciation examiner. If no voice is available, leave this step unfinished.

  5. Check everyday meaning

This written quiz has pinyin support. Its results should not be used as listening or character-only evidence.
